Quadzio: Fractional CTO for a Gen Z College Discovery Startup

Embedded technical leadership that went well beyond the CTO title — product strategy, engineering execution, and team alignment for a fast-growing startup.

The Challenge

Quadzio, a fast-growing Gen Z college discovery startup, had engineering momentum but lacked the structured technical leadership needed to scale it. Engineering decisions were reactive, the product roadmap lacked technical grounding, and the team needed someone who could bridge product vision with engineering execution — without the cost or commitment of a full-time CTO.

The business was moving fast. What they needed wasn't just someone to review PRs — they needed a technical co-pilot who could own the direction and help them ship with confidence.

The Solution

I embedded as Fractional CTO and Product Lead, taking ownership across both technical and product dimensions:

  • Technical Roadmap: Defined and prioritized the engineering roadmap in alignment with business goals — bringing structure to what had been ad-hoc decision-making.
  • Engineering Leadership: Led day-to-day engineering decisions, architecture choices, and delivery cadence. Acted as the technical voice in cross-functional discussions.
  • Feature Shipping: Hands-on involvement in shipping features — not just directing, but contributing directly where needed.
  • Technical Debt Management: Identified and cleared accumulated technical debt that was slowing delivery velocity.
  • Product–Engineering Bridge: Translated product requirements into actionable technical plans, ensuring the team built the right things the right way.

The Impact

The Quadzio team awarded a 5-star review and shared some of the strongest feedback I've received:

"Hands down — Nasim is the best hire we've made at Quadzio. Brought on as a Fractional CTO, he did so much more than the title suggests. From day one, he understood our product, our users, and what we needed to ship."
  • Shipping Velocity: The team moved faster and with more confidence after establishing clear technical direction and priorities.
  • Team Clarity: Engineers had a clear point of contact for technical decisions, reducing back-and-forth and unblocking delivery.
  • Product–Tech Alignment: The gap between what the product team wanted and what engineering could deliver closed meaningfully.
